1. Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and/ or the topic the process you went through to complete the project. What would you change about the project?
My most successful project this year I believe was my finial project of for our perspective chapter. For my finial project I did a perspective drawing of inside a hot air balloon. Before this project, we did a lot of practice with perspective drawings. This project was our first project of the semester. For this project I used Prisma color pencils and a white blank paper. This project took a long time to complete because of all the shading and detail put towards the hot air balloons. The reason I did the perspective point of view from a hot air balloon is because, going hot air ballooning is a thing I really want to do. The only thing I would change about this project is maybe the colors of the hot air balloons, and fade the colors in the distance to make it seem more far away.
2. Which project was your least successful? Describe the theme and/ or the process you went through. What would you change about the project?
My least successful project was my Edward Hopper inspired project. For this project we picked an artist out of a hat and had to recreate a project based on their previous art works. Edward Hopper was a painter who used a lot of contrast, geometric shapes (building in New York city mostly) and people. For my project I decided to Radio City Music Hall at night with a lady with a red umbrella. The final project just didn't turn out as I wanted it too. I painted on a canvas with acrylic paint. If I were to re do this whole project/ change anything, I would have chosen a different artist. Edward Hopper is an amazing artist, but his type of art work is just not my type of style. But it was a fun challenge to do.
3. What were 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist?
Two projects that show my growth as a student are, our first practice of shading cubes, cones and spheres and my prismacolor pencil lollipop. The ways I grew are that when I shaded, it wasn't as blended and it didn't have that 3d shape. The beginning of the year I rushed through the practice just to get it done and I learned to take my time and focus on the detail and the shape of the object to give it that 3d look to it. The only major difference between the two that might have effected the out come of the project was the mediums I used. With the first practice of this year, I used a regular #2 pencil, with the 2nd project I used prisma/ crayola colored pencil which gives it a better more color. |
4.What 2 practice did you think were the most beneficial?
During the semester we practiced a lot before doing the actual practices. We got to work and learn about a lot of different medians and concepts. We learned the proper steps with different medias. I got to learn/ work with color pencils, coal pencils, oil pastel, chalk pastel, collaging, acrylic paint and water color. The two most beneficial practices that helped me were the practice with acrylic and water color. The acrylic practice was a close up of a picture that when we were finished everyone would place their piece together and it would create one big project. This practice was helpful because it helped me focus and concentrate on detail and take my time. I also learned with the acrylic paint about how to mix certain paints to get the proper color. With the water color paints we learned all the techniques you can do. Some of the things I learned with the water color are, wet on dry brush, a dry paint, plastic wrap on water color can create a water affect. Dropping color onto a wet surface can create a marble effect. So many things that I did not know. With the water color we practiced painting apples. We were suppose to do 3 different color schemes, 1.) realistic colors,2.) cool colors 3.) contrast colors. I only did 2/3 of the practices which were the realstic colors and cool colors. I like working with paint more than any other median, but these practice helped my advance my painting skills. |
5.) What medium was your favorite to work with?
My favorite medium to work with was/ is the water colors. The water colors were the easiest to work with because, you don't need much paint and it spreads nicer than acrylic or oil paint. And if you make a mistake it is easy to paint over. Water color can be very light or very dark like the acrylic so you get a nice variety of things. Water color for me comes the easiest and I find it the most relaxing and stress free. We only did a few practices with watercolor but those practices I think came out the best than any other. In my previous art classes we could do a free choice of art work and I would always pick a watercolor base project. Another one of my favorite mediums is clay, I find it very fun to make things with it and sculpt. With clay you can make a bunch of amazing things but have to be very careful and follow the proper steps before it can be put into the kiln. I am not a big fan of painting clay because when I sculpt, i put in detail which is hard to get to with paint.
